The Appel Institute for Alzheimer’s Disease Research proudly hosted the 2026 Appel Poster Event and Appel Symposium—two back-to-back gatherings that showcased the strength, innovation, and collaborative spirit of our scientific community.
The Appel Poster Event, held at the Griffis Faculty Club, brought together trainees, postdoctoral fellows, and research staff for an engaging and dynamic scientific exchange. Featuring nearly 30 posters, the session highlighted a wide range of cutting-edge research across neurodegeneration, neurovascular biology, and cellular mechanisms of disease. The structured presentation format encouraged meaningful discussions, while the networking session fostered new connections across labs and disciplines.
Immediately following, the Appel Symposium convened faculty, trainees, and distinguished guests at the Starr-Greenberg Conference Center. The program featured outstanding talks from leading experts, including Dr. Sreeganga S. Chandra (Yale University), Dr. Edward Lee (University of Pennsylvania), and Dr. Anna G. Orr (Appel Institute), alongside opening remarks from Dr. Li Gan and special remarks from Dean Robert Harrington and Mrs. Helen Appel.
The symposium highlighted emerging insights into neurodegenerative disease mechanisms, emphasizing translational approaches and cross-disciplinary collaboration. The event concluded with a lively panel discussion, bringing together speakers and attendees for a thoughtful exchange of ideas and future directions in the field.
Together, these events reflect the Appel Institute’s commitment to scientific excellence, community engagement, and the advancement of Alzheimer’s disease research. We thank all presenters, speakers, organizers, and attendees who contributed to making this year’s events a remarkable success.
We look forward to continuing this momentum and welcoming our community back for next year’s Appel Poster Event and Symposium.
