The 2025 Appel Symposium was a remarkable celebration of scientific achievement and collaboration, held on May 19th at the Griffis Faculty Club. Following the success of the Poster Event, the Symposium brought together esteemed researchers, faculty, and special guests for an inspiring day of discovery and dialogue.
The event commenced with warm welcomes from Mrs. Helen Appel and Dean Dr. Robert A. Harrington, whose heartfelt messages underscored the importance of community and innovation in advancing neuroscience. Dr. Li Gan, Director of the Helen and Robert Appel Alzheimer’s Disease Research Institute and the Burton P. and Judith B. Resnick Distinguished Professor in Neuroscience, highlighted the institution’s milestones over the past year and shared insights into her groundbreaking research projects.
We were honored to host two distinguished speakers:
Dr. Valina Dawson, Professor of Neurology, Neuroscience, and Physiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
Dr. Manu Sharma, Professor of Neuroscience at the Appel Institute
Their captivating presentations on cutting-edge research findings sparked lively discussions among attendees. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, skillfully moderated by Dr. Matthew Fink, Chairman of the Department of Neurology, Assistant Dean for Clinical Affairs, and the Louis and Gertrude Feil Professor at Weill Cornell Medicine.
This year’s Symposium saw outstanding participation from students, faculty, and distinguished donors, reflecting the vibrant spirit of our scientific community. We extend our deepest gratitude to all who contributed to this unforgettable event.
Relive the excitement, and join us as we look forward to an even more inspiring Appel Symposium 2026!
